Can you grind coffee beans from home at the grocery store for free without getting in trouble?

I don’t have a burr grinder yet, but I really would like uniform grinding.

Where are you buying whole coffee beans? Wherever you buy the beans, you should be able to grind them there too.

Use your blade grinder for the beans you have now. Find a coffee friend with a burr grinder and share some of your bean for "renting" the grinder. Check Craigslist for used burr grinders.

I see lots of issues with taking food back into a store that has been opened in someones house. I suspect there are health and safety codes that govern this type of activity. How does the store know you didn’t steal their coffee? How often do you plan on doing this?

Burr grinders are not too expensive. By the time you calculate your travel time to/from the store, the hassle you will get at each store you visit (you will have to change stores often because you will be banned from some stores), the possibility of jail time if the store manager reports you, the cost of a burr grinder is pretty cheap.

What is a good American made coffee maker with a grinder?

I need an American made coffee maker with a built in grinder, preferably a burr grinder.

Well, if you build it I might buy it. So far, most of the ones out there suck.

And it has to be better than all the Chinese ones out there.

I have seven ways to make coffee. Only my Chemex was made in the US, but it has no electronics at all.

At least none of my methods were made in China either.

A question to coffee connoisseurs. Grinding beans at night for next mornings coffee? Defeating purpose?

I enjoy fresh ground and roasted coffee and have just purchased a burr grinder. I have a nice coffee maker as well, if i grind my beans at night, pour the grinds into the coffee machine for the next mornings coffee (automatic turn on at 6am) am I defeating the purpose of the fresh ground. Is it still going to be fresher than store bought grounds? i feel that by having the fresh ground overnight its losing its fresh roasted flavor. Thanks

It won’t be at its peak, but you probably won’t notice. Most auto-drips don’t get quite hot enough & that would probably affect the flavor more than sitting for a few hours.

It will still be much fresher than anything bought pre-ground.

I don’t even grind my beans until the water is boiling, but I’m probably just being anal-retentive (there’s a hyphen there, right?) <g>

The finer the grind, the faster it goes stale. Drip is a medium unlike espresso, which is very fine.
